A warm welcome to the Mt Lyell Motor Inn
Queenstown, Tasmania is an ideal overnight location on Tasmania’s West Coast. It is the value alternative to Strahan, located only 40 kilometers away.
Mt Lyell Motor Inn provides comfortable, good value accommodation located close to the ABT Railway Station in central Queenstown. All forty rooms are ensuite and well furbished with in-room refrigerators and new TVs. Twenty-two of our rooms have new, reverse-cycle airconditioning.
The Mt Lyell’s restaurant is the most popular in Queenstown, with quality, affordable breakfast, lunch and dinner meals, 7 days a week. Other facilities include a cocktail bar, gaming room and public bar. The restaurant and all public areas enjoy the best airconditioning in Queenstown.
There is much to see and do in this historic mining town and surrounding area.
The major attraction is the rail journey on the reconstructed ABT train between Queenstown and Strahan on Tasmania’s West Coast. It counts as one of the world’s great railway journeys. Now called the West Coast Wilderness Railway, it runs through the spectacular rain-forested gorge of the King River. The ABT locomotives, named after their inventor, use a rack-rail system to climb the steep grades.
In Queenstown you can take a mine tour, visit the Miners Siding, have fun on a 4WD tour, go bushwalking or fish at spectacular Lake Burbury. On the coast you will find wild ocean beaches, magnificent rainforest and the charming historic fishing village of Strahan with cruises on the beautiful Gordon River.
Queenstown Tasmania is the natural West Coast alternative.
